As director of the Texas Water Resources Institute, Dr. Allan Jones is responsible for fostering research, education and service related to planning and management of Texas water resources. He works with faculty, state and federal agency personnel, and the private sector to improve the scientific basis for water resources planning and management.
Jones also holds a joint appointment as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and Associate Director of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station. He joined the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station as the Resident Director of Research at the Blackland Research Center in Temple, Texas in 1988.
Jones previously held positions with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, the University of Wisconsin in Brazil, the International Center for Tropical Agriculture in Colombia, the Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association, and the United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service.
He earned a doctorate from Washington State University and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Texas. He is the author of several books and numerous research publications focusing on crop physiology, agronomy and cropping systems modeling.
