Communications student intern positions available at TWRI

The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) is hiring communications student interns, and positions are open to both graduate and undergraduate students.

Communications interns assist the TWRI communications team, develop social media content, research article topics, interview sources and write articles for TWRI’s publications: our monthly email newsletter TWRI News and txH2O magazine.

In addition, interns may develop and/or edit news releases, feature stories, peer-reviewed journal articles, technical reports and other informational and educational materials for the institute. Other opportunities include assisting with graphic design, photography, field work, managing mailing lists and other duties as needed to help the team.

We are looking for candidates with knowledge of journalistic writing and editing, using the Associated Press Stylebook. Knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and the Council of Science Editors’ Scientific Style and Format is beneficial but not required. Experience with reading and editing scientific papers, and translating research into a news article is also beneficial.

Eligible students: undergraduate or graduate students working towards a degree in agricultural or science journalism, journalism, communications, English or other relevant degrees. Experience in InDesign and Photoshop is beneficial, as well as knowledge of or interest in water resources sciences and other environmental sciences.

The internship lasts a minimum of one semester but may be extended for additional semesters.

In this role, she manages institute business, particularly the pre-award through account setup processes and state and designated accounts, she also coordinates communications and websites services and needs for the institute.
