- Key EPA Internet Tools course to be held Nov. 19

Sponsored by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6, a Key EPA Internet Tools course will be conducted by the Texas Water Resources Institute on Nov. 19 at the River Systems Institute in San Marcos. The course is a comprehensive, two-part course designed to familiarize users with watershed management tools provided online by EPA.

- Save the date for water funding workshop

Texas Water Resources Institute will be sponsoring a meeting titled “Funding Your Water Program: One-on-One with Water Agencies” on Jan. 11, 2010, as part of the annual Texas A&M AgriLife conference. The tentative time for the interactive session is 1-4:30 p.m., and the location will be announced at a later date.
This workshop is for research and Extension faculty from Texas AgriLife as well as other universities with interest and expertise in developing collaborative water research and Extension programs. Key state and federal water agency personnel will discuss the agency roles, research and education needs, collaboration opportunities, and available funding programs.

- Short course in Bandera draws a crowd

The third Texas Watershed Planning Short Course was held Aug. 17-21 at the Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera, with more than 44 water professionals attending. The course is sponsored by the Texas Water Resources Institute and funded by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
- Getting in Step workshops to cover watershed education and outreach

Getting in Step, a workshop on educating and motivating audiences to protect water quality, will be held in Houston, Austin and Dallas, on Sept. 22, 23 and 24, respectively.
These workshops, organized by the Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI), developed and led by Tetra Tech, and funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, will teach participants how to conduct watershed outreach campaigns to help reduce nonpoint source (NPS) and stormwater pollution, improve water quality on a priority watershed basis, and facilitate greater total maximum daily load and watershed-based plan implementation.

- Watershed planning short course Aug. 17-21 in Bandera

The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) will be presenting a Texas Watershed Planning Short Course Aug. 17-21 in Bandera.
The course will be held at the Mayan Dude Ranch, 350 Mayan Ranch Rd., about 47 miles northwest of San Antonio.
“This is one of the few courses that builds upon the nine essential elements for watershed planning as identified by the Environmental Protection Agency,” said Kevin Wagner, an associate director at the institute and course leader. “The goal of the Texas Watershed Planning Short Course is to equip watershed coordinators and water professionals with the tools they need for effective watershed protection efforts.”
The course will address watershed protection planning, building partnerships, watershed assessment, and how to identify solutions and create and implement a plan. Course registration is $350 if postmarked by July 17 and $375 thereafter. Registration does not include lodging and meals.

- WRAP Course offered July 8-10

The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) is offering River/Reservoir System Modeling with WRAP, a continuing education course, July 8-10 at Texas A&M University.
The two and a half-day course will begin at 1 p.m. on July 8 and end at 5 p.m. July 10. It will be held in Room 214 of the Centeq Research Plaza, 1500 Research Parkway in College Station.
The course is designed for engineers and scientists employed by water agencies and consulting firms working in Texas or worldwide. The course will include lectures, discussions and computer modeling exercises that will cover WRAP in its entirety, focusing on fundamentals.

- Lake Granbury Water Quality program advances educational efforts

A team of Texas AgriLife Extension Service educators led by Dr. Bruce Lesikar, professor and associate department head in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, is continuing to educate residents in Hood County about water quality threats related to ongoing, nonpoint source water pollution within the Lake Granbury Watershed. Six training events in Hood County are planned between April 6 and April 17, and additional training is scheduled for June 1-3, 2009.
- Irrigation Training Program successful

More than 500 participants attended 6 training events over the last 12 months as part of the Irrigation Training Program, a multi-agency project designed to help farmers and others learn about efficient tools and techniques of irrigation management to enhance water conservation.
