Public invited to watershed meetings June 29 in Edna and July 13 in Nacogdoches
The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) water team is holding two watershed planning-based meetings in the coming weeks.
Stakeholders in the Lavaca River watershed have an opportunity to give input on the draft Lavaca River Watershed Protection Plan June 29 in Edna. The free meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Jackson County, 411 N. Wells St.
Drafts of the plan will be provided at the meeting or can be downloaded from matagordabasin.tamu.edu. For more information, contact Dr. Allen Berthold at firstname.lastname@example.org or Michael Schramm at email@example.com.

The Attoyac Bayou Watershed Partnership will meet July 13 to discuss implementation opportunities for the Attoyac Bayou Watershed Protection Plan with watershed stakeholders.
The free meeting will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Nacogdoches County Farm Bureau Conference Facility, 2302 NW Stallings Drive in Nacogdoches. It is hosted by AgriLife Extension, Angelina and Neches River Authority, TWRI and Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB).
Since the watershed protection plan was completed in early 2015, efforts have been under way to secure technical and financial assistance to implement portions of the plan and improve water quality across the watershed, according to Dr. Lucas Gregory, TWRI research scientist.
“This meeting will highlight three recently initiated programs focused on implementing the watershed protection plan” Gregory said. “Discussions will revolve around the specifics of each program and will provide information regarding ways that stakeholders can be involved or participate in these programs.”
Funding for the Attoyac Bayou Watershed Protection Plan implementation is provided in part through Clean Water Act 319 grants from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and TSSWCB, through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
