Our Water Quality Improvement Program focused on the Matagorda Bay watershed along the Texas Gulf Coast, a diverse and rich ecosystem that sustains a robust commercial fishery, abundant wildlife and more than 300 species of birds.

Going back to where he discovered his passion for agriculture, Dr. Rabi Mohtar returns to his roots in Lebanon to make an impact.
Growing up, Mohtar said he always had deep ties to agriculture; although raised in the city of Beirut, his family came from a village where they made a living out of olives and byproducts of olives.
- NIFA announces new funding opportunity for sustainable agricultural systems
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has announced the availability of up to $80 million in funding for integrated projects to increase sustainable production of food and agricultural products.
Funding is made through a new program in NIFA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Sustainable Agricultural Systems (SAS) program.
- Students compete in Water Daze poster competition
Eighteen student posters with topics across a wide range of water-related issues were featured in the Water Daze poster competition April 3 on the Texas A&M University campus.
The poster competition was hosted by the Texas A&M Water Management and Hydrological Science (WMHS) program, an interdisciplinary program housed in the College of Geosciences.

Texas A&M AgriLife Research is poised to be a catalyst in the next major leap forward for water and energy use relating to food and landscape irrigation systems.
The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research, or FFAR, a nonprofit organization established through bipartisan congressional support in the 2014 Farm Bill, announced a $5 million grant to launch the Irrigation Innovation Consortium.
- Water quality training May 15 in Cameron will focus on Big Elm Creek
A Texas Watershed Steward workshop on water quality related to Big Elm Creek will be held from 8 a.m.-noon May 15 at the Yards of Cameron, 301 Adams Ave. in Cameron.
The workshop is presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board with the Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI).

Dr. Joan B. Rose, an international expert in water microbiology, water quality and public health safety from Michigan State University, presented her research on water quality around the Great Lakes and what the findings mean to public health at the Texas A&M University’s Water Daze lecture on April 3.
- Urban Riparian and Stream Restoration program workshop set for May 15 in Houston
The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) is hosting another Urban Riparian and Stream Restoration Program workshop from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. May 15 in the Woodlands for professionals interested in conducting stream restoration projects around the Houston area.
- Texas 4-H Water Ambassador program open for high schoolers interested in water
Texas 4-H is about so much more than just raising animals. Kids ages 5-18 can participate in all aspects of the club including food science, healthy living, robotics, fashion, photography and more.
Starting in 2017, Texas 4-H introduced a new program, the Texas 4-H Water Ambassador Program, for high school students interested in water research.

While many Texans were bracing for Hurricane Harvey’s landfall in late August 2017, a team of Texas university researchers set out to deploy instrument pods along the Texas coast. The information gathered from these Rapid Response Units (RRUs) could help develop more resilient coastal communities by improving predictive models and tools.
