Lick Creek cleanup removes 179 pounds of trash

On May 2, over 30 volunteers met at Lick Creek Park in College Station, Texas for a Trash Free Gulf Waterways Cleanup. Volunteers picked up trash around the park for over an hour. Then, the volunteers split to sort seeds and pull invasive plants from the gardens. In total, the group collected 179 pounds of trash.

Stewards of the Wild, City of College Station Parks and Recreation, and the Texas Water Resources Institute organized the cleanup. Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, Gulf Trust, Mender, Yogi Bins, and Keep Texas Beautiful supported the event.

The cleanup was originally scheduled to take place at Wolf Pen Creek but was moved to Lick Creek Park after heavy rains in the preceding days. The focus area of the cleanup was planned to be along the creek but was changed to other parts of the park to ensure volunteer safety.
