The Texas Water Journal recently published two papers.
In “Effects of the Rincon Bayou Pipeline on salinity in the upper Nueces Delta,” Dr. Elizabeth Anne Del Rosario and Dr. Paul A Montagna of Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, write about the Rincon Bayou Pipeline pumping water from the Nueces River to the upper delta at Rincon Bayou. This pipeline, constructed to mitigate the reduction of inflow from impoundments, is restoring ecological function to the Nueces Estuary, transitioning the marsh into a positive estuary.
“Economic valuation of groundwater in Texas,” authored by Gabriel Collins of the Baker Center for Public Policy’s Center for Energy at Rice University, is an article outlining seven methods of economically valuing groundwater in Texas. According to Collins, groundwater is a strategic economic asset, and recent Texas Supreme Court decisions have strengthened private ownership rights in groundwater.
The journal, an online, peer-reviewed journal published by the nonprofit The Texas Water Journal and the Texas Water Resources Institute, publishes papers as they are complete. It is devoted to the timely consideration of Texas water resources management, research and policy issues from a multidisciplinary perspective that integrates science, engineering, law, planning and other disciplines. It also provides updates on key state legislation and policy changes by Texas administrative agencies.
