The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) has awarded three 2024-25 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Graduate Research Grants to Sarah Davis and Alexandra Prouse, Elena Lundeen, and Nowrina Rahim for their water-related research projects.

- Sarah Davis and Alexandra Prouse, Texas A&M University at Galveston, Marine Biology. Advisor: Antonietta Quigg, Ph.D. Research: Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Texas aquatic ecosystems: evaluating connectivity between urban riverine, estuarine, and marine ecosystems;
- Elena Lundeen, Texas A&M University, Water Management & Hydrological Science. Advisor: Andrew Moodie, Ph.D. Research: Assessing river-floodplain connectivity and material movement in coastal zones through paired hydrodynamic and particle transport modeling; and
- Nowrina Rahim, University of Texas at Austin, Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering. Advisor: Mary Jo Kirisits, Ph.D. Research: Assessing the Potential for Naegleria fowleri and Other Opportunistic Pathogens in Splash Pad Water as the Climate Warms.
Since 2001, TWRI has awarded more than $772,000 in USGS grants to support 141 students in water resources-related fields. TWRI administers the program with funds from USGS through the National Institutes for Water Resources, through the Water Resources Research Act of 1984.
