As a program specialist for Texas Water Resources Institute, Ali Ajaz, Ph.D., worked on education and research programs related to irrigation water management, water conservation, precision irrigation technologies and drought risk management. He collaborates with stakeholders like universities, federal and state agencies, water districts and growers to pinpoint the needs of capacity development for addressing statewide water-related issues.

Ali has been involved in the field of irrigation and agricultural water stewardship since 2009 and has worked in different professional domains such as research, consulting, training and project management. His research interest is gridded crop modeling and drought risk assessment to enhance the resilience of cropping systems to water scarcity. He also likes to explore the fields linked with the sustainability of irrigated agriculture and water security.

Before starting at TWRI, Ali received his doctorate in biosystems and agricultural engineering from Oklahoma State University. He earned his master’s degree in land and water development for food security from UNESCO-IHE, Institute for Water Education, The Netherlands. He also holds a Master of Business Administration in management from Virtual University, Pakistan, and he received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Pakistan.
