Xingmao 'Samuel' Ma, Ph.D., P.E., is a TWRI Faculty Fellow and an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research interests span from studying the fate and transport of emerging environmental contaminants such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and micro/nanoplastics to developing effective treatment technologies for different environmental pollutants. He is actively exploring novel new materials and advanced oxidation/reduction technologies to address the widespread PFAS challenges and other pollution problems in U.S. water and soils.

Dr. Ma is a three-degree environmental engineer and received his Ph.D. from the Missouri University of Science & Technology. He has been an assistant and then associate professor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale before he Joined Texas A&M University as a tenured associate professor.
