Gabriela Suchiapa Magdaleno, Ph.D., is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at TWRI, where she contributes to interdisciplinary research on sustainable agricultural systems across the Southern Great Plains (SGP). Her work focuses on two USDA-NIFA and NRCS-supported projects: the USDA-NIFA Grazing Cover Crops project and the NRCS-Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG).
Through these projects, Suchiapa investigates the barriers and adoption potential of regenerative agriculture and soil health practices that improve water use efficiency, soil conservation, and ecosystem resilience in semi-arid environments, and enhancing the agronomic, economic, and community resilience of the SGP.
Suchiapa earned her Ph.D. in Agricultural Education and Communications from Texas Tech University, where her research applied the Borich Model to evaluate leadership competencies within Mexico’s agricultural extension system. She also holds an Agronomic Engineering degree from EARTH University in Costa Rica, where she specialized in Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Before joining Texas A&M AgriLife, Suchiapa accumulated over a decade of professional experience across Latin America and the United States, working in agricultural production, food safety certification, and sustainable resource management. Her diverse background spans research, extension, and education, with a strong commitment to improving agricultural resilience and promoting environmentally sound practices.
Her areas of expertise include sustainable crop production, agricultural extension and education, leadership development, and producer adoption of conservation practices. Suchiapa’s work integrates scientific research with stakeholder engagement to advance practical, sustainable solutions for semi-arid farming systems.
In her spare time, Suchiapa and her husband enjoy hiking, traveling, playing tennis, reading, watching movies, and spending quality time with family and friends.
