The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) has awarded 2024-25 Mills Scholarships to five graduate students conducting water-related research at Texas A&M University.
The scholarship recipients are:
- Christopher Cobos, Texas A&M University, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. Advisor: Katie Lewis, Ph.D. Research: Texas Water Security Initiative Field Day.
- Shubham Jain, Texas A&M University, Biological and Agricultural Engineering. Advisor: Raghavan Srinivasan, Ph.D. Research: Coupling the Hydrologic and Water Quality System with Machine Learning to enhance the prediction and interpretability of instream water quality in ungaged basins.
- Madan Sapkota, Texas A&M University, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. Advisor: Chase Straw, Ph.D. Research: Calibration of a Portable L-Band Radiometer (PoLRa) for Accurate Soil Moisture Mapping on Golf Course Fairways.
- Mingxiu Wang, Texas A&M University, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. Advisor: Briana Wyatt, Ph.D. Research: The effects of 2023 flash drought in the Post Oak Savanna ecoregion.
- Veronica Zancho, Texas A&M University, Ecology & Conservation Biology. Advisor: Jason West, Ph.D. Research: Mechanisms and hydrological impacts of below ground woody-herbaceous plant coexistence in the Texas post oak savanna as a function of soil type.
TWRI administers the Mills Scholars Program, an annual competitive scholarship program supporting graduate research in water at Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University-Galveston and Texas A&M University-Qatar.
This program is funded through the W.G. Mills Memorial Endowment. Since 2001, TWRI has awarded more than $560,200 in Mills Scholarships to support 220 students involved in water-related studies.
