The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) has awarded U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) graduate research grants to two students for June 2018–June 2019.
The grant winners are:
- Erin Noonan, Department of Geosciences, Baylor University. Advisor: Dr. Joe Yelderman. Research: Identification of salinity sources in the northern segment of the Brazos River Alluvium Aquifer.
- Ferne Maulsby, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Rice University. Advisor: Dr. Philip Bedient. Research: Evaluating the impact of the Katy Prairie and adding HCAD Plan 5 Reservoir on Flooding of Addicks and Barker Reservoirs in Houston, Texas.
TWRI administers the program with funds from USGS through the National Institutes for Water Resources. Since 2001, TWRI has awarded more than $677,000 in USGS grants to support 126 students in water resources-related fields. This program is supported by funding received from the USGS through the Water Resources Research Act of 1984.
TWRI’s USGS Graduate Research Program will begin accepting applications for the next funding cycle during fall 2018 and is open to graduate students at all universities in Texas. For more information, see the program’s web page.
